This winter on the North Island New Zealand was pretty damned good. I mean really good in terms of “fushing” of course, and skiing was pretty good as well I heard. But back to fishing now – it’s so easy no bush bashing no hiking required. So much different from a type of trout hunting we do over here in Australia – trying not to step onto the snakes, watching out for wild dogs, spiders, fighting through blackberries so on and so on. Instead in NZ just grab a coffee and a sausage roll from your local coffee shop and rock up at your favorite pool. 99% chance the fish will be there, and there’ll be heaps of them. I’m talking specifically about the winter time Taupo fishery of course. But catching them is another story. I had heard fishing glo-bugs, black bead nymphs is the way to go. But only after I put on a golden bead nymph that’s when I started catching fish after fish after fish. All in good quality especially closer near the river mouth. Definitely would like to come back to do the same thing all over again. Good times.
