New Zealand South Island – Part 2

Second part of the trip saw way more sun than overcast days, and the rivers managed to clear up reasonably well, which meant I was able to hit some of the backountry rivers I was initially planning to. Some nights got pretty cold and waking up to some frost on your tent wasn’t surprising at all. Sandflies were hungry and annoying as usual but Desolve UPF hoodie made fishing days way more bearable. Again, some fish would take nymphs other would feed on the dries but you needed to match the hatch fairly well. I had some dry fly takes where I would pull out tiny blue dun out of trout’s mouth for like five time in a row, until I learned to be patient enough and don’t strike too early. Another day another lesson, that’s how fishing goes in NZ. See you next time.
